What is legacy system?

Term which refers to all software, programming languages, processes, or components that have been rendered technically obsolete, meaning that there is no support or maintenance for them, but they remain essential for the functioning of an organization, which means that replacing or updating them is complicated. These ageing systems tend to be critical for an organization and if they are interrupted or fail, for example, this can cause losses in terms of time, business, and reputation.
