What is copyleft?

Type of legal protection that ensures that any user has the right to use, modify, and redistribute a digital work or its derivatives, provided that these same conditions on use and distribution are maintained in respect of the modified version. It was conceived by the free software movement and was initially used in the computing field, but has since been extended on an analogous basis to works of art, texts, patents, or any other kind of creative work that is covered by copyright. It may be viewed as being the opposite of copyright.
