What is a podcast?

An audio recording available online that is updated at a certain frequency and distributed via RSS to users who have subscribed beforehand at no cost. Compared to the rigidity of streaming, podcasting offers the option to download, enabling users to listen whenever they want, on a computer or mobile device that can play the specific file format employed (generally MP3).

Some podcasts mimic radio programmes, adopting a news bulletin or music show format, but there are no thematic or formal limitations; the ease with which they are created has led to a proliferation of voice only podcasts, such as personal blogs, tutorials, chats...
